The AECF provides grants and interest free loans to businesses that are seeking finance for innovative, commercially viable, high impact new ventures in Africa in these areas. Applications are assessed during competitive rounds and winners can receive up to US$ 1.5 million. On October 15, 2011 AECF announced the opening of funding windows for one existing program and two new programs:
- Renewable Energy and Technologies for Adapting to Climate Change Competition: closing date initial application December 15th 2011
- Agri-business Africa: closing date initial application December 15th 2011
- Agri-business South Sudan: closing date initial application December 15th 2011
The competitions are open to companies from anywhere in the world provided that the business idea is in line with requirements of the programs.
In addition, funding windows for the Tanzania Agribusiness Competition and the Zimbabwe Agribusiness and Rural Finance Competition are scheduled to open at the beginning of 2012.
