Angola: new PSI country

From the first tender in 2012, the PSI country list has been expanded with Angola. Despite the challenges to conduct business in this Sub-Saharan country, there are many opportunities to explore which make Angola an interesting country for PSI projects.

Over the last decade Angola was one of the fastest growing economies of the world, with an annual average GDP growth of over 10% percent, an exceptional number. The economic growth is mostly driven by the high international prices for its oil. The country is sub-Saharan Africa’s second largest oil producer after Nigeria. Major crops in the country are millet, maize, coffee, cotton, oil palm and sisal. Important industries are textiles, cement and oil refining. The potential for business development might be surprising to many people, since Angola is often still associated with negative aspects like landmines and the 27 years civil war that ended in 2002.

Potential sectors for investment in Angola include:

  • Agriculture
  • Civil Construction and Related Services
  • Electricity and Water
  • Infrastructure Development and Management
  • Tourism and Hotels
  • Processing Industries
  • Mining
