Ethiopia: Technical Assistance to boost horticulture exports

20170919_130933Established in 2013,  Enterprise Partners (EP) is a social enterprise facilitating market development  in Ethiopia, aiming to create 45.000 jobs and increase the income of 65.000 households. Enterprise Partners takes a Making Markets Work for the Poor (M4P) approach and works in three priority sectors of the Government of Ethiopia: horticulture, cotton and leather. The enterprise is funded by DFID.

Enterprise Partners requested Advance Consulting  to review its Horticulture Strategy and to help bring its Horticulture Export Strategy to the next level.  From  July to December 2017, Director Frank Joosten and Business Consultant Lisette Zewuster provide in-depth technical assistance to Enterprise Partners on:

  • A thorough review of the EP Horticulture Program, assessment of sector trends and opportunities as well as the formulation of strategic directions for the coming years;
  • The identification of new interventions and partnerships that can propel horticulture exports from Ethiopia to end-markets such as Djibouti, the Middle East and Europe;
  • Mobilizing private sector partners and establishing partnerships around high-potential business cases for exports in a variety of horticulture sub-sectors and horticulture development hubs;
  • Building capacity of the Ethiopian Horticulture Producer Exporters Association (EHPEA) with regards to scoping market potential and providing up-to-date market information to prospective exporters;
  • Assisting the EP team in the implementation and monitoring of new interventions, helping EP to steer towards success and reach the envisioned development impacts.
