Bertine Niesten

Bertine Niesten has more than 17 years international work experience, mostly with non-profit and UN organisations working in the environment and agricultural sector in developing countries. Before Bertine joined our team at the end of 2011, she worked as an Executive Assistant at the headquarters of Wetlands International (a global non-profit organization dedicated to sustain and restore wetlands and their resources for people and biodiversity) and with BirdLife International (a global Partnership of conservation organizations that strives to conserve birds and their habitats).

 

Before that Bertine lived and worked abroad. She worked for FAO in the agricultural sector in Mozambique, Costa Rica and Bhutan. Together with her colleagues she was responsible for the development of programmes with different stakeholders in the areas of fisheries, animal husbandry, horticulture and forestry. Working with FAO in these areas and with different donors, she also gained experience with the full project cycle, from identification and formulation to implementation and closure. Bertine worked several years in (agricultural) education in Bhutan and Kenya. She implemented several assignments in Vietnam.


Bertine holds an M.Sc. in tropical soil science of the Agriculture University in Wageningen.
