General information
Project location: Biratnagar Region, Nepal
Consortium: North South Seed Ltd., CG Seeds and Fertilizer Pvt. Ltd.
Project Budget: € 1,274,473
External financing: PSI
Project period: July 2011 – January 2014

Advance Consulting has assisted two companies from Nepal and Bangladesh to obtain project finance for their innovative project idea in the seed sector. Working with the partner companies Advance Consulting has defined the project and developed a business plan for a 7-year period.

With the contribution of Euro 630,000 granted by the Dutch PSI Programme the partners are able to establish a modern hybrid seed propagation facility and develop a sales network in Nepal.

Demand in Nepal for quality seeds is high, but seed production capacity is very limited. To strengthen its market position in Nepal a joint venture between NSSL and CG Seed has been established. The new JV company is the first Nepalese seed company that produces hybrid seeds (vegetables, rice and maize). To this effect seed growers were contracted and trained and a seed processing plant has been  established. Furthermore a network of seed traders will be developed in the main agricultural production regions of the country.

Through this project more than 100 people will find employment, 200 contract farmers will work for the project under long-term contracts and many more farmers will be able to obtain improved seed varieties for their horticultural production.
