Project Budget: € 964,300

Project period: July 2013 – June 2016

Gebroeders Bakker Zaadteelt & Zaadhandel BV (Bakker Brothers) is a Dutch, family-run seed company with focus on breeding and production of vegetable seeds for African, Asian and Middle-Eastern markets. The local partner Alqabas Agricultural Co. is a Jordanian agricultural trading and distribution company. The project concerns the establishment of a commercial vegetable hybrid seed breeding station in Jordan – the first in the country.

The project will introduce new knowledge and skills to Jordan and give direct employment to 21 people. Through co-operation with the University of Amman, students will be invited for internships at the company. Local farmers, who are the final buyers of the seeds, will greatly benefit from the introduction of the seed varieties with tolerance for plant diseases.
