South Sudan: Modern printing services
|Project location:||Juba, South Sudan|
|Consortium:||Mac-Nels Gulf FZCO, Afristar International Ltd|
|Project Budget:||€ 942,400|
|Project period:||From May 2010 to December 2012|
There are no large scale multicolor printing services in South Sudan. Public and private organisations have to use the services of printing companies in Eastern Africa or the Middle East. Due to the difficult and expensive logistics, this adds significantly to the printing costs. Furthermore, the quality control and supervision of the print work by the South Sudanese client is minimal.
The growing number of private sector companies, numerous donor organisations, NGOs and GoSS Ministries and institutions are producing increasing volumes of posters, school books, leaflets etc. as part of the institution building initiatives in South Sudan.
The establishment of a new joint venture company will relieve the strain caused by the lack of an offset printing press in South Sudan. This will enable South Sudanese clients to have a greater control over the quality of the print work and to have access to affordable modern printing services.
The project partners will build a warehouse and acquire a four colour offset printing press, training and employing some 52 staff, mainly young women who would otherwise have no opportunity to earn an income.
Advance Consulting assisted the partners to develop the project proposal and business plan and continues to be involved in the project’s implementation.
