Willemijn Blokland focused her career on SME finance, financial inclusion, sustainable (agricultural) development and project management & implementation. She has done a lot of on-the-ground work in emerging markets, including in Asia and Africa where she focused mainly on the development of the MSME sector. Her core competencies include the development of and advice to sustainable and inclusive businesses, financial analysis, design, implementation and evaluation development funds and programs. Willemijn combines a proactive mindset and strong analytical skills with the ability to connect well with people from different backgrounds and cultures.
Willemijn has lived and worked on three continents in various roles. As highly successful market developer in The Netherlands, she worked on building strategic partnerships, leading large ticket competitive bids for funding in agricultural development and project management. In Kenya, she worked as a business development officer for an asset finance company in Kenya that provides specialized finance products to small and medium enterprises in Sub-Saharan Africa. In The Philippines, she worked as project management consultant and provided technical assistance to help microfinance institutions enter into- and find funding for housing microfinance products for low-income families for Habitat for Humanities' Terwelliger Centre for Innovation in Shelter.
Willemijn holds a BSc in International Economics from Erasmus University in Rotterdam, an MA in Leadership in Development Finance from the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management and is a certified expert in SME Finance. She is fluent in Dutch and English.
