The Postcode Lottery Green Challenge is an annual worldwide competition in the field of sustainable entrepreneurship. The competition is backed by the Dutch Postcode Lottery and former finalists are monitored by the DOEN Foundation. The aim of the challenge is to combat climate change and to achieve a zero-carbon economy.

The call for proposals is closed now but will open again in March 2019. Refer to our calls page for a selection of open calls.

Funding

The winner of the challenge fund will receive EUR 500,000. The runner-up will receive EUR 200,00, and the three other finalists will be granted with EUR 100,000 each.

Project focus

Project proposals should be directed towards developing a product, service or technology that directly reduces greenhouse-gas emissions, and scores high on convenience, quality and design. The innovation has to be introduced to the market within 2 years.

Target countries

There is no requirement with regard to the location where the product, service or technology will be rolled out.

Eligible applicants

The Postcode Lottery Green Challenge is only available for start-ups.

Procedure

The Postcode Lottery Green Challenge is very competitive, attracting far more applications than can be awarded. Selection follows a two-staged procedure:

  • Stage one: submission of an application (includes a business plan)
  • Stage two: pitch business plan to jury and audience, given that the application is selected as one of the five finalists
