Ethiopia has hosted several successful business courses for local entrepreneurs. Advance Consulting has been active in the provision of training and coaching in business plan development to Ethiopian entrepreneurs since October 2013.

Under the Agri-Business Support Facility (ABSF) programme, 74 entrepreneurs received tailor-made advice and training on how to develop a business plan. This supported them to improve their business performance and attract financing for further business development.

Thanks to its success, the ABSF programme was succeeded by a new programme called the Ethiopia Netherlands Trade for Agricultural Growth programme (ENTAG). ENTAG is committed to contributing towards overcoming challenges faced by medium-sized Ethiopian companies in company and market strategy planning, financial forecasting and acquiring finance to seize existing market opportunities. In this context, ENTAG implements a business plan development coaching program for medium-sized Ethiopian companies in targeted subsectors. Advance Consulting was responsible for the development and implementation of the coaching program.

The coaching programme has been designed for medium-sized companies that will benefit from tailor-made advice and training to develop or update their business plans. At the end of the coaching program, participants have developed/updated business plans for their companies, deepened their knowledge about company strategy planning, strategic sourcing, market strategy planning and financial forecasting, and acquired knowledge and tools to broker appropriate finance for their businesses.

The program was divided into two phases:

  • A 4-day workshop that focuses on company strategy planning, strategic sourcing, market strategy planning, financial forecasting and financing possibilities.

  • The business plan development phase, whereby companies are supported in drafting tailored bankable business plans. Advance Consulting provides personal assistance with finalizing the business plan.

In 2016 and 2017 a total of 39 companies have received support.
